Sign 6. Mica schist and lava

Mica schist (the grooved  grey bedrock) was originally part of the sea floor located between Norway and Greenland for about 500 million years ago. Clay and calcareous material were deposited, through many millions of years.

Question 1: Why do we find this old sea floor in a vertical position here in Åseli today?

In this area lava has penetrated the bedrock because of movement in the earth crust. The lava is now solidified.
