Answer to question 1:

The old seafloor is in a vertical position because it was folded during the collision between Norway and Greenland. See explanation on figure below.


 
(1) The seafloor between Norway (N) and Greenland (G) 500 million years ago. The Åseli-area is marked with a red frame.

(2) The folding of the seabed when Greenland and Norway collided for 430 millon years ago. The seafloor was tilted. Due to high pressure and temperature the seafloor was transformed to mica schist. Agents of erosion like water and ice have worn down the bedrock, and the mica schist is seen like grooves in the bedrock.
